REGIONAL SELECT 2017-12-08T06:18:04+00:00

Group Description and Expectations

Regional Select squad is targeted at youth and adult swimmers between the ages of 14 and 25.  Swimmers enter this squad from a range of squads within the club and it is considered to be an alternative squad for those who cannot meet or do not want the commitment of the attendance criteria or expectations of other competitive squads within the club.

The squad has five training sessions per week all coached by a dedicated team with occasional opportunities for Friday night long course training at Loughborough University 50 metre pool. There is no minimum attendance criteria, but plenty of opportunity for athletes to progress as competitive swimmers.

Squad Expectations

City of Derby is a competitive swimming club and we ask that swimmers do their best to comply with the following requirements of the squad.  Click here to view squad expectations.

If you are thinking about joining our Regional Select section from another club or from other external pathways there are some simple requirements:

  1. You should be able to swim a minimum of 500 metres non-stop front crawl.
  2. You should be able to swim a minimum of 100 metres non-stop in another stroke.
  3. You must be prepared to listen to the coaches and complete the sets that the squad is given to the best of your ability. Our coaches work extremely hard to give us appropriate training.

Come along and watch a training session. This will give you an idea of the standard of swimming and provide an opportunity to meet swimmers and coaches to see if what we offer is appropriate for you.

Owen Roberts

As a swimmer my proudest achievement was achieving Gold for my age group in 50m freestyle at welsh nationals! I swam up until the age of 18, after which I stopped to focus on my A-levels, and have coached ever since. Coincidently my last competition was at Queen’s Leisure Centre! It feels like I spend half of my life in the pool environment, whether it be swimming myself, coaching, teaching or lifeguarding. For me the best thing about coaching is being able to see the same enjoyment and sucess in the swimmers as I felt during my time swimming.
