Closure of Moorways

Classification: OFFICIAL
Dear Club Members,
Derby City Council, in conjunction with ourselves have continued to make significant efforts to keep Derby swimming despite the unforeseeable, temporary closure of the Family Pool at Queen’s Leisure Centre. As you are aware the Family Pool remains closed whilst essential safety work continues; however, it is still the aim of the Council to get the Family Pool re-opened by June 2017.

To be supportive the Council agreed to reopen Moorways Swimming Pool for us to use and this was originally anticipated to be until summer 2016 when the Family Pool was due to reopen. However, the costs of our continued use of the water space at Moorways are now prohibitive. Therefore it has been agreed that we will find alternative facilities to use. The Council has offered some additional water space at Queen’s and this has been complemented by water space in other venues. This means that our last session at Moorways will be Friday 20 January 2017.

We and the Council will continue to work closely together as the Council progresses its plans for a new 50m swimming pool which is currently planned to open in 2020.

A new schedule is close to being finalised and will be published shortly.
