A huge contingent of Derby’s swimmers descended on Sheffield on Sunday for the March Madness meet. Swimmers from across the squads came together to make a great day’s racing!
From the first minute of the morning, City of Derby looked the part as a professional club. It was great to see swimmers conducting themselves so well and doing the club proud. A big thank you goes to the team managers who helped organise swimmers and set the standard of the day.
This professional behaviour carried over into some excellent racing. With some swimmers competing in their first competition, let alone their first long course meet, it was an exciting meet to be at for any coach. There were lots of well executed skills put together with amazing effort to equate to lots of PBs across all squads. There were a number swimmers achieving Midland qualifying times, some for the first time. A huge congratulations! Swimmers did a great job of analysing their own race performances for future meets too, which keeps the future exciting for us all to keep improving even more.
As a coach, the best thing about the meet for me was the atmosphere the club generated. There was a real buzz around our swimmers, who gelled together well to support each other. This created an environment where we could go out and swim fast with a smile on our face, pick each other up and congratulate each other on our performances. This is what sport is all about, and it left me feeling proud to be there!
Finally, thank you to parents for your continued support. It was lovely to hear the positive energy coming through to the swimmers, the ‘well done’s and ‘great effort’s are a massive mental boost going into the next competitions. Without this your never ending support, your swimmers don’t have that opportunity to do what they enjoy!
