Big Weekend for City of Derby at Nova Level 2 Meet!

City of Derby had a great meet this weekend, with 53 of our swimmers competing in the Nova Centurion Level 2 Short Course Meet at Harvey Hadden.

308 races for our swimmers – and a massive 92% of these were achieved within the target of 97% of PB time.

The PB rate is also on the rise – up to 55% overall at a meet that is still essentially early season. This included a number of swimmers who achieved their own 100% PB rate – including Joel Muir with 9 leading the way for the boys, closely followed by Ethan Billinge (8) and Max Morris (7). For the girls, Nadia Williams swam her way to 8 new PB’s, followed by Libby Bateman-Arkinstall and Emma Tyers with 5 apiece.

The gala programme included 50m, 200m and 400m events for all age-groups and Junior/Senior finals for the 100’s. Overall City of Derby won a grand total of 63 Gold, 45 Silver and 49 Bronze medals – and took 1st place in 8 of the 16 100m Finals

The 100m Breaststroke finals saw a clean sweep of City of Derby gold medallists – Michaela Stephen and Guy Farnsworth winning the 14/u events, and Ed Baxter + Sarah Vasey the 15/overs.

Harriet Cooper took 2 further wins in the 15/over 100m finals – taking gold in the Freestyle and Backstroke (achieving 2 new National SC times also at the meet). The 15/over Boys Freestyle final also saw a COD win, with Will Foster taking gold – and there was also a win for Joel Muir in the 14/u 100m Back final.

No finals in the 50m events, but a great swim for Sophie Yendell in the 14 years 50m Butterfly – setting a new East Midlands SC record of 27.54 seconds.

This was also the last meet for swimmers to swim qualifying times for Midland Short course championships – and 7 Derby swimmers posted a further 13 qualifying times between them – 7 for the girls ( Harriet Cooper and Georgina Walker with 2 each, and 1 for Sian Heap, Krissy Tomlinson and Sarah Vasey). Ed Baxter leading the way for the boys with 5 and Kyle Swannick also with 1

A great weekend’s performance from our swimmers – and a deserved victory in the Top Club event to end the weekend on a high. Well done everyone!!

Thank you to all our supporters upstairs, officials, coaches Mandy and Phil ( lots of stats to keep Phil busy this weekend) and our team managers ( Danny, Nigel, Sharon, Anna and Nicky)

Looking forward to the next meet – and launching our new go faster City of Derby kit in style!!

Finally – there were a number of swimcamp water bottles left behind by swimmers – if you have lost yours before you even get to Fuerteventura, they are with Kirsty!!
