A reminder that we would like as many of our swimmers and parents to represent the club by being in the crowd on the front row next to the town hall where Adam will get off the open top bus to be awarded in Uttoxeter for his achievements. Please can club members be there by 10.45am wearing as much Derby kit, blue clothes, and have banners too. We invite all swimmers and their families from Junior Coaching, to Masters and Youth squad up to the top squads (for those not competing at DX that morning!!!!)
Secondly we have confirmation of sunday 9th October for a civic reception at the council house in Derby to celebrate Adam, Mel and Lewis’s achievements at the Rio Olympics. The council will also recognise the status and importance of the club in the city and finally will offer Adam the highest civic honour of ‘Freedom of the City’
15.30 – Adam, his family and colleagues, and other representatives of City of Derby Swimming Club meet with the Mayor and Leader of the Council in the Council House.
16.00 – the Mayor and the Leader appear on the balcony of the Council House. They speak about the importance of swimming – for fitness, enjoyment, self-esteem, sociability, etc. – and the importance of the City of Derby Swimming Club, and proceed to make a series of presentations, including:
- Representatives from City of Derby Swimming Club including young swimmers and a range of ages and abilities.
- Paralympic bronze medallist (and, possibly, another medal today!) Lewis White from C of D Swimming Club.
- Finally, presentation of Freedom of the City to Adam Peaty, including a brief Q and A with the Leader of the Council.
16.30 – retire into Council House for refreshments
17.30 – close
All club members, the swimming community and the public are invited to attend the celebrations outside the balcony of the council house.
We have informed squad reps to make a draw for two swimmers to attend from each squad. A boy and a girl. Please inform your Squad Rep if you will be unable to attend this event if selected.
