Policy for the Selection of Relay Teams for
Championships and Relay Competitions

Selection will be based on the fastest swimmers in the club ranking system.

Wherever possible five swimmers will initially be selected for each event.

The initially selected teams will be posted on club notice boards as soon as practicable after the official entry for that event has been submitted.

Initial selection will be based on the five swimmers having the fastest time in the club ranking system, for the particular leg for which they have been selected to swim, on the day that the team is selected.

It is the responsibility of any swimmer who achieves a personal best time in a competition at which the club as a whole is not represented to provide detailed substantiation to their squad coach so that their entry in club rankings can be updated.

Swimmers will be informed, at the last programmed training session before the competition, of the four swimmers finally selected and who will swim, (subject to withdrawal through to illness or injury) regardless of performances in any subsequent competitions.

In the event of swimmers having identical times in the club rankings a swim-off will be held.

It is the squad coach's responsibility, under the instructions of the chief coach, to inform all five initially selected swimmers, including any not in attendance at the last programmed training session before the competition as soon as possible thereafter, of the finally selected team of four.

Equally, swimmers have a responsibility to inform their coach, before the last programmed training session before the competition, of their non-availability and subsequently of any illness or injury prompting their withdrawal, as soon as that illness or injury becomes apparent, so that a replacement swimmer can be called-up.
